Crazy Rich Asians – Kevin Kwan

Blurb:
When Rachel Chu agrees to spend the summer in Singapore with her boyfriend, Nicholas Young, she envisions a humble family home, long drives to explore the island, and quality time with the man she might one day marry. What she doesn’t know is that Nick’s family home happens to look like a palace, that she’ll ride in more private planes than cars, and that with one of Asia’s most eligible bachelors on her arm, Rachel might as well have a target on her back.

Initiated into a world of dynastic splendor beyond imagination, Rachel meets Astrid, the It Girl of Singapore society; Eddie, whose family practically lives in the pages of the Hong Kong socialite magazines; and Eleanor, Nick’s formidable mother, a woman who has very strong feelings about who her son should–and should not–marry. Uproarious, addictive, and filled with jaw-dropping opulence, Crazy Rich Asians is an insider’s look at the Asian JetSet; a perfect depiction of the clash between old money and new money; between Overseas Chinese and Mainland Chinese; and a fabulous novel about what it means to be young, in love, and gloriously, crazily rich.

My Thoughts:
I’ve been wanting to read this book for ages/watch the movie, but I actually struggled with the book. I found it so hard to connect with the characters and keep track of who was who.
I got about halfway through the book and had to watch the film because I didn’t think I would finish it. I absolutely adored the film, it was funny and cute and beautiful, so I carried on with the book and started to get more into it.

I really loved the descriptions of the scenery they were so detailed! It made me really want to go live in Singapore. What I really loved was the mentions of Hong Kong when the characters went to visit. The reason I enjoyed this so much was that I was born and lived in Hong Kong for a few years and Hong Kong will always have a special place in my heart.

This book really brings you into a magical world that most of us can only ever dream of, people living the high life, chartering private jets at a moments notice and jetting off around the world. I won’t pretend, I would love to experience this world just for a day to see what it’s like. I don’t think I would enjoy living in this world.
