Becoming – Michelle Obama

Blurb:

In a life filled with meaning and accomplishment, Michelle Obama has emerged as one of the most iconic and compelling women of our era. As First Lady of the United States of America – the first African-American to serve in that role – she helped create the most welcoming and inclusive White House in history, while also establishing herself as a powerful advocate for women and girls in the U.S. and around the world, dramatically changing the ways that families pursue healthier and more active lives, and standing with her husband as he led America through some of its most harrowing moments. Along the way, she showed us a few dance moves, crushed Carpool Karaoke, and raised two down-to-earth daughters under an unforgiving media glare.

In her memoir, a work of deep reflection and mesmerizing storytelling, Michelle Obama invites readers into her world, chronicling the experiences that have shaped her – from her childhood on the South Side of Chicago to her years as an executive balancing the demands of motherhood and work, to her time spent at the world’s most famous address. With unerring honesty and lively wit, she describes her triumphs and her disappointments, both public and private, telling her full story as she has lived it – in her own words and on her own terms. Warm, wise, and revelatory, Becoming is the deeply personal reckoning of a woman of soul and substance who has steadily defied expectations – and whose story inspires us to do the same.

My Thoughts:

Wow! First of all I have to admit that I love this woman! I think she is absolutely incredible, she is strong, intelligent and empathetic. Basically what I’m trying to say is that I miss her and Barack.

In the current climate it is so important to be aware of what is going on around us and to help those in need.

Mrs. Obama grew up in a loving home on the South Side in Chicago with her parents and older brother. The home that she grew up in was above her great aunts Robbies home who taught her to play the piano.
At school she would push herself to be the best and got into a prestigious school where she was told by her adviser that she wasn’t Harvard material. Being told this only made Michelle push herself harder prove that she was infact Harvard material.

At Harvard, Michelle studied law and after graduation she joined a law firm where she met Barack. Michelle, says herself that she has no interest in politics and when Barack ran and won a seat for senate it was hard on her and the girls as he would fly back and forth between Chicago and Washington. But when the opportunity came for Barack to run for president they both knew that he had to run, to make changes to the US and help the children reach their potential.

Of course we all know that he did become president. Michelle has the ability to write about everything they went through from being called names, racist comments thrown their way to the joys of what they were able to do in their position. She writes with emotion and joy and reminds us to smile. She is the epitome of determintation and kindness.

Sadly now though it seems from an outsiders perspective that all of the Obamas hard work has come to end with the new president.

  1. I’m a huge fan of Michelle Obama and I know reading her book would make me love her even more. I’m going to add it to my Summer TBR since we’re going to have plenty of spare time for self care activities while we’re still under social distancing measures.

      1. A very nice review of this book. Michelle Obama is actually one of the most influential first ladies the world has ever seen and she’s also a very strong woman who does her things her way. A good role model for young girls, although its unfortunate how the US has forgotten about what she and her husband have done for American💔💔
