The Curious Inceident of the Dog in the Night Time – Mark Haddon

Blurb:

‘Lots of things are mysteries. But that doesn’t mean there isn’t an answer to them’

This is Christopher’s murder mystery story. There are also no lies in this story because Christopher can’t tell lies. Christopher does not like strangers or the colours yellow or brown or being touched. On the other hand, he knows all the countries in the world and their capital cities and every prime number up to 7507. When Christopher decides to find out who killed the neighbour’s dog, his mystery story becomes more complicated than he could have ever predicted.

My Thoughts:

First of all I want to say that Haddon did an exceptional job with this. The whole book is written from Christopher’s point of view. Something you should know about Christopher is that he has Aspergers Syndrome. His parents are divorced and he lives with his dad.

The way Haddon is able to express Christophers thoughts is fantastic. When Christopher was uncomfortable, I was uncomfortable and when he was sad, I was sad. Haddon was realy able to bring the reader into the story and evoke a tremendous amount of emotion with his writing.

During the story Christopher gets very upset with his father and ends up goin to London all by himself which he has never done beforeand it’s scary for him because there are all of these new experiences and he gets overwhelmed with all of the people rushing past him.

The reason he goes to London is because that is where his mother lives with her new partner but Christopher doesn’t like the new partner at all.

I don’t want to give too much of the story away as it is quite a short book but you can get it here. I would say go and see the play as well because it is incredible!
